Nextalk supports a BYO modem/router.. It is important to check that your modem/router supports the relevant connection type in the table below, depending on the ADSL/NBN technology available at your property. If you need any assistance, please get in touch with our technical support team.
|NBN Technology||Modem Requirement||Authentication|
|Fixed Wireless||Router/WAN Connection||PPPoE|
|FTTN/FTTB||VDSL Modem Required||PPPoE|
When signing up for ADSL, using your own modem should generally be acceptable so long as it is unlocked and supports ADSL2+ and PPPoE.
Our technical team will attempt to provide assistance in the configuration of your BYO device. Due to a vast range of devices available in the market we may not be able to support every make and model. For this reason we recommend you have a good understanding of how to configure your own BYO device.
If you wish to use a NBN phone plan with your BYO device, it is important that your device supports VOIP services.
If you are unsure whether your modem will work at your property, or want to enquire about purchasing one of our pre-configured, "plug-and-play" modems that is ready to go, contact our friendly support team today.
For the technically savvy out there who are interested... when NBN is ready for service at your address, it will be connected using one of several different possible technologies.
How long it will take to setup your internet, and the type of modem you will require depends on which NBN you will be receiving. The table below outlines the different available technologies and how long it will take to get you connected.
For all NBN Phone (VoIP) services, a new number can be activated in 1-2 business days. When transferring an existing number to NBN, it can take up to 10 business days.
